María Elena Gutiérrez-Rentería, Ph.D.

PhD in Public Communication from the University of Navarra, Spain. She was a visiting professor at the College of Media & Communication, Texas Tech University. Scientific board of the Revista de Comunicación at the University of Piura, Peru, and co-editorial board of International Media Management. Bachelor’s degree in Business and Finance from Universidad Panamericana, México.

Represents Mexico on the Digital News Report of the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, based at the University of Oxford. Member of the Scientific Committee of the International Media Management Academic Association (IMMA). Former general coordinator (2005-2008) and former dean of the School of Communication at Universidad Panamericana, Guadalajara, México (2008-2009). Academic secretary of the Business and Economics School (2009-2010).

She is a professor and the Head of the Business Academy in the School of Communication at the same institution. She is part of the equipment work for the Quality and Sustainability research project in Universidad de Navarra’s Digital Platforms. Her research is about the Mexican media industry and the Hispanic media market. Former Vice President of the World Media Economics and Management Conference (WMEMC) 2023-2025. President of the same WMEMC during 2025 and 2027.
